Belfast Waterfront once again provided the stunning setting for Ulster University’s Summer Graduations. 10,000 graduates and guests were treated to a brand new experience at the fantastic 7,000m2 facility. The Summer Graduations marked the first year of a 3-year contract renewal with the venue.
For the past 17 years, Belfast Waterfront has proven popular as a graduation venue with students from Jordanstown and Belfast campuses, providing a spectacular backdrop to complement this momentous occasion in their lives. This year however, additional space and services meant that the class of 2016 enjoyed an even greater experience during the 3-day celebration.
Before taking their seats in the awe-inspiring auditorium for the graduation ceremony, graduates enjoyed more time with friends and family, as a result of a quicker and slicker registration process. Thanks to Belfast Waterfront’s new 1,805m2 Hall 1, gown issuing, photo frame displays and more photography studios than ever before could be housed in one space. Once dressed in their academic attire, graduates soaked up the atmosphere over a drink or bite to eat in the many spacious dining areas overlooking the river.
Ruth Wasson, Director of Student Administration at Ulster University, said: “As a modern, forward-looking university we take great pride in our students’ achievements, no more so than at graduation. It is one of the biggest and proudest moments in a student’s life so it is important that the ceremony and the venue reflect that.
“Hosting our Belfast and Jordanstown graduation ceremonies at the newly extended Belfast Waterfront, provides large flexible open spaces which help us to streamline the process and make the occasion more memorable for our students.”
Susie McCullough, Director of Sales & Marketing at Belfast Waterfront comments: “During the 18 years of hosting this prestigious event we have built a great relationship with Ulster University and an understanding of their requirements. It’s been a privilege to play an important role in helping thousands of students celebrate such an important milestone and we look forward to welcoming an additional 3,000 guests to Ulster University’s Winter Graduations in December 2018.”
Belfast Waterfront is also home to the South Eastern Regional College (SERC) and The Open University graduation ceremonies.
The transformation of Belfast Waterfront into a world-class conference facility costed a total of £29.5 million. £11 million was provided by the council, through its Investment programme for the city, £13.3 million from the European Regional Development Fund, through the EU Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland, and £5.24 million from Tourism NI.
